Mărțișor is a Romanian tradition celebrated at the beginning of Spring in March, with the gifting of a keepsake object made from two intertwined red and white strings with hanging tassel. 

The word Mărțișor is the diminutive of marț, the old folk name for March (martie, in modern Romanian), and literally means "little March". The tradition originates from ancient Rome celebrating on 1 March.
